Ms. Lyman has been working with me since my freshmen year at the University of California at Davis (UC-Davis). I am now a junior. Time management, networking, and utilizing the academic tools that surround me are the major themes that Ms. Lyman and I work on. Being a student-athlete, these major themes are key to my success here at UC-Davis. I not only have the obligation to excel on the football field, but in the classroom as well. I credit large amounts of my athletic and academic success to our weekly coaching sessions.

Ms.
Lyman taught Chemistry at my son’s high school and was a very good teacher both
in and out of the classroom. She was able to relate to him on a level
that most teachers at his school were unable to do so. She took time with him and made him aware that someone truly cared
about his future. I
sincerely believe that it was partially the positive influence Ms. Lyman had on
Tory’s education that has carried him as far as he is today.
He has accomplished much on his own, but having had Ms. Lyman as his teacher at such a crucial point in his life certainly aided him in pursing his goal of going to college and succeeding. There are times in a student's life when one person giving him or her the encouragement and positive reinforcement they long for can be a turning point. Ms. Lyman was that turning point for Tory.

I was blessed to have Ms. Lyman teach me Chemistry my eleventh grade year in
high school. She taught me the importance of not relying on things in the world that are
constantly taken for granted. The world that we live in
has a tendency to “spoil” kids within my generation. Some of the people in my age group feel
like everything should be “handed out” or served on a “silver platter." Ms. Lyman taught my classmates and me about being in the real world. For example, in our Chemistry class, we were not allowed to use a
calculator during class or for tests. We were able to complete our assignments and pass our exams just as well without it.
I received the Outstanding Student Award in Chemistry for that year and I felt truly blessed and excited at the same time. Ms. Lyman was always willing to give me and other students good advice and she always helped out in whatever way she could. I feel truly honored to have been a student of and now a friend of Ms. Lorraine Lyman.
